Veterans

We took the time to interview some of our veterans about their experience with the team:

Stephen–

Stephen is a veteran of two years from Lake Michigan Catholic High School. He is a senior and is on the build team. We asked how robotics changed his outlook on things; how he has grew as a person because of the program. He told us how it helped him learn to work with other and how to be a leader. It taught him another form of “sportsmanship”.

Alyssa–

          Alyssa is a veteran of two years from Coloma High School. She is a senior and is on the marketing team. We asked how robotics changed her outlook on things; how she has grew as a person because of the program. She responded with telling us about how she had been interested in robots her whole life, it was one of her hobbies. It was something she loved to do. She loves robotics because it gives her a chance to be herself. It also helped her pick her lifelong career; architectural design and mechanical engineering.

John–

John is a veteran of two years from Lake Michigan Catholic High School. He is a senior and is on the design and engineering team. We asked how robotics changed his outlook on things; how he has grew as a person because of the program. He responded by telling us how he didn’t know what he wanted to do with his life until he started the program. Being on the engineering and design team, it sparked his interest in engineering. He decided to go to school for mechanical engineering. He also learned leadership skills and teamwork skills.

Zia– 

          Zia is a veteran of two years from Grace Christian School. He is a senior and is on the controls systems team. We asked how robotics changed his outlook on things; how he has grown as a person because of the program. He responded by telling us how working with the top notch mentors helped confirm his profession choice; electric engineering. He said the program helped him become better at communicating. He said it instills time management skills in the participants because the robot has to be done by the six week deadline.
